Top 10 Layouts of 2011

I have seen a few posts with this Top 10 theme and decided to go back over my layouts for the year and see which were or still are my favourites. I also decided to count back over them and see how many pages I actually scrapped this year. The total 110. I would of thought more, hopefully I can do a lot more than that next year! Anyway onto my Top 10 (that I can show!)

One of the first layouts I did this year and possibly my most favourite layout is Mummy's Big Helper which was picked to be on the cover of Scrapbooking Memories Magazine.

I love joining in on all the challenges over at Scrapz and scrapping in a way that would not normally be my style. This page was influenced by one a page by Belinda Venables when she was on the Scrapz DT. I love how easy this was to come together and all the different fonts in the title.

Last year was Zane's last year of preschool and they have a graduation ceremony. His hat was back to front and he was playing with the tassle, so cute! I love the colours, and the cute handmade embellishments on this from A Lil Something

Zane started school this year, so there were lots of photos taken and a few pages scrapped. I love this one, he looks so small and neat and tidy - something that's never happened since. The title is based on the letter we received from the principal, about them starting their Adventure in Schooling:

This year I have been loving handmade embellishments. I have had to make a new storage system just to house them. One of the first I started with is Purple Pumpkin . This layout is a recent one from one of their monthly challenges based on a sketch. I love the brights in this:

I have so many older photos still waiting to be scrapped and I discover more as I look back at photos that may not be perfect but bring back lots of memories. This cute one is of Lily playing Peek-A-Boo. I love the Prima bling, flowers and doilies on this.

I love trying new techniques and mixing up my style. This was my attempt at a grungy boy layout and I love how it turned out. I even used Rub-ons! This photo was from a family photography shoot we had in July, this one actually captured Zane and his Cheeky Grin perfectly. I have edited the photo from the original.

I love to be behind the camera, never in front! I don't have many photos of just me for all the usual reasons. At Halloween the kids wanted me to dress up like them so I thought I would take a pic of me. So it is in my Top 10 because it's me and I am pretty happy with the photo and love the colours.

This is from another Scrapz challenge. I love that challenges force you to scrap what you normally wouldn't it. True Blood is my current favourite show - eventhough now I have to wait till June next year for the new season. It also gave me the chance to try a new technique with some paint.  The journalling is the theme song.

And I must finish off with a Christmas layout!! This one was recently published in Scrapbooking Memories and I just love, love the photo of Miss Lily and I love my cluster of embellishments including the gorgeous chipboard swirls from 2Crafty

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and wishing you all the best for a fabulous 2012!!

See you in the new year!

Another Ticklez page

Yikes only 7 more sleeps till the big man in red arrives! I am slowly getting there with everything but it seems to be taking longer this year - I still have to get the kids photos done with Santa and I still have presents to buy!! The flu I had the week before has really put me behind!

Anyway I have managed to do some scrapping, another Christmas layout using the fabulous Ticklez kit I am fortunate to be Guest Designing with over at Scrapz.

This layout is from last year, the kids opening some of their gifts. Love the Prima resist canvas reindeers from the kit, they are too cute!!

Thanks for your visit, and lovely comments

Ticklez Kits

Over at Scrapz this month I am designing with the Christmas Tickelz kit. These are great value for money kits, all this for just $29.95!!

I have completed 2 layouts so far using this kit. The first one is of my Christmas Nativity:

And the second one is the story of Zane and his special potato Santa gave him last year. It did not have the desired effect!!

A close up of the journalling:

He really is a funny kid, he was telling me he wanted one this year, but I told him if he did he might miss out on something he really wants - The Smurf Movie, so he is NOT willing to risk that!!

Hopefully I will manage some more scrapping between now and Christmas, I am so behind with Christmas as it is as I have been sick for the past 4 days with the flu!

Too Cute to Spook

I am usually quite bad at using up all a paper range, and rather than do several layouts with the one range I chop and change. I decided to try and use up this range though and scrap a few pages together. I should do it more often, might get more scrapped that way!

One is a Halloween layout, and the other I have used the colours for a non halloween page by just sticking to the plainer patterns and not using the themed parts of the range. Plus I used this range on another Halloween layout a few posts back!

This first one is me on Halloween, the kids insisted I dress up too!

The next one is a quick & simple page, just to highlight how much Lily loves jumping and posing on the trampoline. She plays on it almost every single day!

I do love a nice purple range of papers too, helps when she wears it a lot!

Purple Pumpkin November Sketch

Oops! Almost forgot to post this layout I did last week for the November sketch challenge over at Purple Pumpkin. What happened to the month of November? It went by way too fast for me!!

Loved this months sketch, here is my take on it, using LOTS of Purple Pumpkin embellishments - vinyl cogs, mini doily, the red & blue star embellishment and spotty buttons!

The photos are from a recent trip to the park of Zane on the flying fox which was a little too big for him to reach so he was often just hanging!

Off to panic about Christmas now!

Scrap the Girls - November

Back with another layout I created last weekend at the crop day at  All About Scrapbooks .
This one is for the November challenge over at Scrap the Girls. The criteria for the month was to scrap a predominanly pink layout and include polka dots and multiple photos.

I have used a template in the alternating corners of my layout so add some polka dots. I have also used some gorgeous page runners and lollipops from Charms Creations.  I loved this MME title too, she is a sweetheart (mostly!) and definitely makes the world a better place to be!

Show us your Colours

The current theme over at Scrap the Boys is "Show us your Colours". Perfect! I had a few photos of Zane, who started playing soccer this year.

I have used the Bella Boulevard Making the Team papers, a cute windmill from Rainbow Splendour and a Purple Pumpkin spotty button.

Zane looks cute in his gear, but it will probably be his only season, I have some journalling on the tag, it follows on from the title "First Soccer Season"... and probably your last as well. You were not a fan and spent most of your time heckling the opposition. Maybe when they get goalies you will like it more. We will try again in a few years.

Thanks for visting

A little bit Spooky...

Each Halloween we seem to get more and more Trick or Treaters, so this year I decided to make it a bit of fun for the kids. We dressed up and I decorated the lounge room and put out some treats! I had lots of lollies on hand too. The kids had a ball, dressing up, eating party food and watching all the kids come trick or treating - and this year there were heaps! I ran out of lollies and had to dig into the stash I had put aside for Zane's birthday the following week.

Naturally I took a couple of photos. This one is my fave of us all pulling pretty scary faces and I have scrapped it with Bella Boulevard Too Cute to Spook range! I have also used this fabulous halloween tree from 2crafty and super cute button from Purple Pumpkin!

Aren't we pretty? Haha!

I also scrapped an older photo of Zane that I had started ages ago, but never finished. I started over completely and love it now. This was taken down the coast one day after a bit too much sun for my boy who has a very fair complexion!

He looks so little in this photo, today he lost his first tooth, he is not a baby anymore!

Thanks for visiting!

Happy 6th Birthday Zane!

Yesterday my handsome little man turned 6! We celebrated with parties both days of the weekend, McDonalds for dinner last night and cupcakes today for school!! Phew exhausting stuff!

Here he is on Saurday before his first party which was for all the boys from his class, we had it at a play centre and they spent the majority of the time running around and we barely saw them!

Sunday we had the family over, and I made a Smurf Mushroom house for him, complete with super hard to find Smurfs!!

And one of the 4 of us:

Sunday was very hot and threatened to storm and rain which is standard for us having a party at home, but it held off so all the kids went swimming. Zane got a cool whale pool toy from his cousins:

He was thoroughly spoilt by everyone, received fabulous presents and had a great weekend!!

Monday he got the last of his presents, and his favourite present his 3DS with smurf game of course!!

We ended the birthday celebrations with a trip to McDonalds for dinner - the birthday boys pick of course! Some of his cousins came to celebrate too - 2 out of 5 smiling isn't too bad??? Ha!

Happy Birthday Zane!  Can't believe you are now six years old!

Quick Shares

Popping in quickly to share a couple of layouts I have scrapped recently for some challenges at Scrapz

The first one was for a What's Cooking challenge to use black, metal and at least 2 circles. The theme for the week was On Your Bike, so I scrapped some pics of Lily recently trying her hardest to master cycling:

The next page was for the Melbourne Cup sweep, based on a pagemaps sketch. This super cute photo of Lily when she was about 1, I found when I was sorting through some photos. My sister would always say to her "Hands up if you're gorgeous" to get her to raise her arms. Too cute.

Wishing you all a great weekend! No scrapping for me, my eldest is turning 6 and we have lots of partying to do!

Purple Pumpkin Sketch

I almost forgot to post this layout I did for the October Sketch Challenge over at Purple Pumpkin  I totally loved this gorgeous sketch, here is my take on it

Lily fell in love the minute she saw the Giant Panda's at Ocean Park in Hong Kong, and couldn't resist a cuddle with this statue outside their enclosure. Just the one Purple Pumpkin spotty button on the layout, I had to make a few changes to my original embellishment plan but love how this has turned out.

Christmas Planning

My final Christmas Showcase challenge is up at Scrapz today. I decided to make a planner that I can use to keep all my Christmas organisation in the one place. I have used the stunning Echo Park Seasons Greetings range, utilising the sticker sheet so my planner wasn't too lumpy bumpy!

For the inside I made up a few pages I will need for Christmas - such as Christmas cards list, shopping lists, gift lists etc. You can see more pictures of my planner over at Scrapz

It was a lot of fun creating the christmas showcase this month, next month I am working with one of the gorgeous Ticklez Kits.

The most wonderful time of the year!

I have created a Christmas layout this week over at Scrapz for the Christmas Showcase. With all the gorgeous new product coming out, it is the perfect time to be scrapping those photos from last Christmas (or earlier) that you haven't gotten around to!

This is one of the photos I took for my December Daily album ... I haven't actually done the album though! It is of my Lemax Santas Wonderland Christmas village that I started collecting before we had kids. Gorgeous little lit houses, which for a few years since the kids arrived I hadn't been able to display. I was very excited to display it last year! I love it, it is my favourite Christmas decor!

I have mainly used the gorgeous Echo Park Seasons Greetings range which you can find here.

Bossy Little Thing!

Lily is usually a sweetie, but she has her moments, more so now as she is getting bored and ready for school next year. I like to scrap the good and the bad. This is actually an older photo of her, she pulls this face a bit more now unfortunately, but she is generally quite sweet natured, so hopefully it is just a phase at the moment!

Hopefully someone likes my page, as Miss Lily is VERY unimpressed with it - haha! I am quickly posting while she is enjoying PlaySchool. I am doing a much nicer one of her now so she will be happy.

Deck the Halls

It's Sunday again, which means I have another guest designer challenge over at Scrapz in the Christmas Showcase. This time I have gone with an OTP project, not something I do regularly, but I do like to make OTP Christmas stuff!

With all the Christmas decorations out already, I have been thinking about colour schemes. There are so many to choose from these days, but I love my traditional red & gold. I am planning to add a bit of green into the mix this year. So to add to my decorations for this year I have made some pretty bunting:

A closer look:

You can find all the details about this challenge and lots of other inspiration here at Scrapz!

Two More!

Still on the previous weekends crop day layouts, I have two more to show. Pretty excited that I had 3 of the 5 pages I did at the crop picked up by Scrapbooking Memories! I must remember to be that productive more often. I was happy with all my layouts from that day which is the most important thing!!

This one is another holiday page. I totally love these lanterns from 2 crafty and they were perfect for my page on the Po Lin Monastery. I had these little chinese coins since forever, finally a chance to use them!

I have some hidden journalling under the photo, straight from my holiday blog post

I didn't just do holiday pages though. This one is a set of photos from our family photo shoot back in July. While I wasn't thrilled with the photos, I did like that she included everything so I got these shots of Zane & Lily clowning around. They look cute in a sequence!

I have used some more 2 crafty  chipboard, this time the giant film strip and the gorgeous new Crate Paper Farmhouse papers.

Hoping to do some more scrapping tonight, so hopefully some more pages to share in a few days.

Back to Scrapping

I am a bit behind in showing off my recent layouts. I have been scrapping but wanted to get all my holiday recollections all together!

Last weekend I attended the All About Scrapbooks monthly crop and did a record 5 pages!!! My girlfriend and I decided to set ourselves a challenge of doing 8 pages - never going to happen but it pushed me to actually get five done instead of my usual 3.  Of course this meant I needed to be organised and sort out what I was doing - it made a difference!

Today I have two of the three holiday layouts I did:

Stanley Markets where we did some shopping on the last day of our trip. I took a couple of pics of some of our purchases from there too. I have used October Afternoon Boarding Pass range.

Next one was from our visit to Lantau Island where we stopped for a late lunch. We hadn't taken any cosies for the kids but they really wanted to swim so we let them, even though we had no towels either! I have used gauze for the background and rope, Ocatober Afternoon stickers and the cute lollipop flower is Purple Pumpkin

Thanks for stopping by

And Challenge #6 - a teapot card

I also went to a crop day last Saturday so we will be back later today or tomorrow to share some of my layouts from then!

Hong Kong Day 5 - Stanley Markets

Our 5th and final day in Hong Kong and it was time to do some shopping!! We had a late and relaxing start to the day because we were all a bit tired from all the walking the previous days.  We got a taxi to Times Square, the shopping centre near where Cathy & Calle work and had a bit of a shop – which was more of a browse as we discovered some prices were similar to home and decided to wait and see what we would find at the markets.
At lunch time we met Cathy & Calle and got to experience Dim Sum, which was delicious, but the fussy pair were not impressed, Zane wouldn’t try anything but some rice. At least Lily ate some beef and rice but wasn’t going anywhere near the Dim Sum!
Soon after lunch we grabbed a taxi to take us off to Stanley Markets. The markets themselves were a lot smaller than Murray and I imagined but there was quite a lot of things still. The kids busied themselves finding toys and getting small gifts for their friends back home. We didn’t buy too much, in hindsight I wish I had bought a bit more!! We did of course stop for an ice-cream break.

After getting back from the markets we went back to the local shopping centre, Pacific Place to buy an Ipad which is meant to be for everyone, but it has a red cover which clearly means it is mine J followed by dinner at Triple 0’s which is a burger joint (because we decided it was a good idea to have something the kids would eat! )
Then sadly it was back to pack as we would be heading to the airport very early the next day.

Hong Kong Day 4 - Ocean Park

Another day and another theme park! This time we were off to Ocean Park, just the four of us as our lovely hosts had to work.  We made our way to the bus depot, got our tickets and then hopped onto the bus and held on tight – gee they get so close to each other and we were sitting up the top. Scary stuff!!  Thankfully it was only a short trip and we arrived safely.
Once inside the kids spotted Swift the Dolphin, one of Ocean Parks mascots, they made a beeline to him to get a photo, and then posed for several pics with various animal statues.

We headed to the lagoon with its geysers shooting high into the air. Quite pretty, but the kids had done it on the photos already! Ocean Park is divided into 2 sections on either side of a mountain. We decided to head to the far side first, The Summit, to see the dolphin show, so we hopped onto the cable cars. These ones were a bit freaky as they bumped along over the supports and the drop was quite steep!

We had a bit of time so we decided to take the kids on The Rapids ride, but when we got there it had a height restriction which meant Lily couldn’t go on – even though she went on the one at the Gold Coast when she was only 3 – no idea what the restriction was for on this one? Instead she had to console herself with the water pistols and shoot water at Murray and Zane as they went by.

After that we made our way to the Ocean Theatre to see the seals & dolphins perform in the Sea Dreams show. The dolphins and seals were pretty clever and it was an enjoyable show.

Next stop was to check out some rides, both kids had been eyeing off the Ferris Wheel so we headed there first and it was a short wait to get on. The kids enjoyed it, but I wasn’t so keen on Lily repeatedly trying to stand up when she was close to the door!

Wandering around we found the Flying Swing and Zane and I had a turn on these. Zane loved the feeling of flying and wanted to go on it again, but Lily was a bit over missing out on rides due to height restrictions that we thought it would be best to head back over to the other side of the park and find some rides she could go on.
Before we got back on the rickety cable cars we stopped in to see the amazing Jellyfish Spectacular, this was fabulous, lots of glowing jellyfish to see and we all thought it lived up to its name, it was pretty spectacular!

The cable cars didn’t seem as scary the second time J Back over in the section called The Waterfront, we headed to the Sea Life Carousel, Zane had to ride a shark and Lily wanted a dolphin – thankfully they both found the ones they wanted and were both so happy.

From here we made our way into Whiskers Harbour which was a kiddie area with lots of little rides, a jumping castle and a playground area too. We had some lunch and the kids had a play in the playground and on the jumping castle while we had a rest. The best bit about the kids’ area was there was no one there! Hardly any families with littler kids were around so we virtually had the place to ourselves and the kids got to go on heaps of rides over and over again! The Merry go round, the Clown Around and the Frog Hopper got the most repeat visits, they also had turns on the mini Ferris wheel and the Loco trains. They loved it!

Now it was time to check out the main aquarium! We made our way out of Whiskers Harbour and Zane spotted a Shark! It was one of the Park Mascots.  He ran straight up to it and had the biggest grin. It wasn’t till I was checking the photos later on that I realised the Shark was eating Zane LOL!

We got to the Grand Aquarium and there were quite a few people in there! It was busy and I was annoyed at the amount of people using their flash on their cameras despite numerous signs and announcements in English and Cantonese! The kids got to check out some pretty coral, seahorses and giant crabs but were more interested in the bigger fish – like sharks! Though once they had a quick look they were over it and were more interested in playing.

Once outside we sat down by the Lagoon to have a rest.  I got a nice photo of the two of them this time, but I was not the only one.

As usual people wanted to take Lily’s photo and quite often Zane’s as well. This happened a few times throughout the day, we always checked to make sure she was okay, even though she would go straight into pose mode!! This time though it was a bit crazy, there were a heap of people. I decided to quickly take a photo of them taking pics of the kids. Murray was there of course, but he  got moved out of the way apparently. It was all over pretty quick and neither Lily nor Zane said anything even though we checked again…
So onto the Pandas we went. Lily was so excited, she declared she loved Pandas! There was only one out in the main enclosure of the Giant Panda exhibit. The others must have been resting. Outside there was a large panda statue which Lily couldn’t wait to snuggle into.

We decided to try the Panda Village to see if we could spot some more Pandas. We had to go past the Mascot Meet & Greet area again and this time we met a friendly Gator!

And then we came to the Gator Marsh and met a not so friendly one! Zane couldn’t decide if it was real or not – and we didn’t really help at first!

The Panda Village was next to the Gator Marsh and was a quiet area, so this really tested Zane. We spotted two  Pandas here; one was laying on a platform up a tree and was hard to see. Lily spotted a really cute one poking his head through the rocks though.

We exited the panda village into goldfish treasures, with cute little ponds of fish and turtles as well as wishing walls with the idea to write a wish about looking after nature  or something similar. Anyway the kids made a wish, pretty sure Zane’s was for toys,  as that is his usual type of wish, but Lily’s was a bit sad. I asked what she wished and she replied “ I don’t want anyone to touch me” then “I don’t know why everyone wants to take my photo all the time” Aww my poor baby! Of course they won’t anymore! I think that last group really did it as before that it had been one or two people not a crowd like that.

More rides were needed so we went back to Whiskers Harbour and the kids had a heap more rides, still with no one else really there. They declared the Frog Hopper their favourite ride with the Carousel and Clown Around bugs up there as well according to Lily.  We left there and greeted another Mascot, this one was the funniest one and the kids had a ball playing with him!

It was getting pretty late by this stage and the kids had been pretty good for the most part - despite Lily asking Murray and I “Why do you both make my life so hard?” when we were trying to get her to choose something to eat!  We decided to head home via picking out a souvenir for each of them. Lily chose a walking Panda because she loved the Pandas so much, and Zane loved the Sharks best of all so got a pack of sea creatures.
