Lily's First Day of School

I spent many moments crying in the lead up to today. My baby girl starting school, a few days before your 5th birthday. When did my baby grow up? I wasn't ready, but you most definitely were!

Lily you looked so cute and grown up in your school uniform and seemed invincible, ready for anything.  I am very proud of you, my baby girl. You waved to other mums we saw as they exclaimed over how you looked all ready for school! Not one hint of that shyness that sometimes overcomes you. You were so eager to start - "hurry up Mum, I don't want to be late". You walked straight in and your teacher said "Hello Lily" and she gave you your name badge and asked you to go sit next to your friend Madi. You sat together and you started colouring in like you had been going to school for years. No tears were shed by you or me, but writing this now, I feel the tears trying to surface.

I am so proud of you. I hope you are having the best first day ever!!

When Zane started school last year, I had a poem I had found a few years back. This time I found a special starting school poem that felt just right for you.

First Day of School poem

She started school this morning,
And she seemed so very small.
As I walked there beside her
In the Kindergarten hall.
And as she took her place beside
the others in the class,
I realized how all too soon
Those first few years can pass.
Remembering, I saw her as
She first learned how to walk.
The words that we alone made out
When she began to talk.
This little girl so much absorbed
In learning how to write.
It seems as though she must have grown
To girlhood overnight.
My eyes were blurred by hastily
I brushed the tears away
Lest by some word or sign of mine
I mar her first big day.
Oh how I longed to stay with her
And keep her by the hand
To lead her through the places
That she couldn’t understand.
And something closely kin to fear
Was mingled with my pride.
I knew she would no longer be
A baby by my side.
But she must have her chance to live,
To work her problems out,
The privilege to grow and learn
What life is all about.
And I must share my little girl
With friends and work and play;
She’s not a baby anymore –
She’s in Kindergarten today.

Summer Activities

This summer we rediscovered the hammock, it had been sitting on a shelf in the linen cupboard long forgotten, but I did a bit of a clean up in there and decided to give it a wash and I hung it in its old spot in the backyard. The kids had never seen it before, but they absolutely loved it! Playing in, lazing in and generally mucking around on the hammock was one of their favourite things to do, it was like discovery a new toy! This was great for Zane because he is not an outdoorsy kid, so I love anything that gets him outside.

Over at STB the challenge is to scrap about favourite summertime activities and this fit the bill. I have seen a lot of bunting layouts recently and had pinned a few on pinterest such as this one. I though this style was perfect for a hammock layout.

Here is my page, using some gorgeous Charms Creations page runners & Purple Pumpkin buttons & twine

Last day of school holidays today for this little boy, he starts back in 1st class tomorrow, then quickly followed by my baby girl who starts Kindy Tuesday. Holidays went way too fast!

A Layout in Every Size!

The other weekend at the Crop Day I attended besides teaching my first class I managed to scrap a couple of layouts! This year I have decided to do a 52 week album and try my hand at 8.5 x 11 inch size. It was hard to get used to, but I am happy with my first page. This is actually week 2, a picture of Mum & Dads caravan where we stayed for a couple of nights:

I also decided to try my hand at another double layout, which I very rarely do, but these photos of the kids on the slide needed more room than just one page.

And my final layout is based on a sketch from a recent competition over at Scrapz. Love this collection from Echo Park and getting away with lots of pink on a layout with Zane in it (though it IS his favourite colour). I have also used a cute pick from Rainbow Splendour and a gorgeous little button from Lovelybug Bits n Bobs

Only a few more days till I have both babies at school! Hopefully a lot more scrapping time!

My First Class

Last weekend I got to teach my first class at the All About Scrapbooks All Day Crop. I was a bit nervous and had managed to injure my leg so was hobbling around a little bit but it was a nice small group of lovely ladies and I it was good fun! My layout was pretty straight forward as it was my first. I think it went okay or at least I am getting another chance next month.

Here is my page:

I have used the Crate Paper peppermint range and some fabulous 2Crafty chipboard to scrap these pics of Christmas including the present opening.

Hopefully back with some more layouts soon, my knee is now completely swollen and I am meant to be keeping off it and icing and elevating it which is not much fun at all.

Something Different

Well different for me anyway! I did this layout for the What's Cooking challenge over at Scrapz. The ingredients were:

- at least two different sized photos
- your photos must be Christmas themed
- at least 2 stickers
- buttons
- twine

I used some hipstamatic photos and loved the aged effect on them, but the glittery Peace word in my photo really stood out so I decided to use glitter on my background then keep the rest pretty simple.

And here it is:

I like it, it is a bit fun, though the glitter hasn't photographed as well as I hoped it would!

Thanks for visiting and all the lovely comments everyone has been leaving, especially on my first CT role at Scrap the Girls.

Daring You To Scrap

I felt like scrapping last night so checked out a few challenge blogs for inspiration and found a new one called Daring You To Scrap. The challenge is to use your scraps to make a background for a layout. Sounded like fun and it was! I sort my scraps into ranges which made it easy to put a page together but I did mix it up a little.

I used one of the hundreds of photos I already have printed out and came up with this:

All about Zane losing his first baby tooth, he had been waiting for it to happen ever since he started school at the beginning of last year and he finally got a loose one just after he turned 6 in November. He wiggled it so much it was out the next day!!

I am totally loving gorgeous handmade embellishments at the moment especially these cute felt ones from Rainbow Splendour and cute spotty buttons by Purple Pumpkin.

Loved this challenge, think I might do another layout with scraps, I definitely have plenty!!
